7-murder: Rab DG to give statement tomorrow
A government-formed committee tomorrow will take a statement of the director general of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) to find out facts behind the seven-murder in Narayanganj.
Contacted, Mokhlesur Rahman told The Daily Star that he received a letter today from the committee headed by Shahjahan Ali Mollah, additional secretary to public administration ministry.
The Rab chief has been requested to appear before the investigators at 2:30pm at Bangladesh Secretariat for giving his statement in connection with the incident, said a member of the committee on condition of anonymity.
"We hope to submit our report by the next month," he said.
Earlier on July 17, the committee also recorded the statement of Col Ziaul Ahsan, additional director general of the elite force, in this connection.
In April 27, Ward Councillor Nazrul Islam, his lawyer and five associates went missing along with their vehicles. Later law enforcers found the bodies in Shitalakkhya River, within a span of three days, tied to bags full of bricks.
Three Rab officials -- Lt Colonel Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain and Lt Commander Masud Rana – were accused in the case and dismissed from service on May 6 for their alleged involvement in the incident.
Law enforcers on May 17 arrested Tareque and Arif from Dhaka cantonment for their alleged part in the seven-murder case.
Kolkata police arrested Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the seven-murder in Narayanganj, on June 14 and he admitted his involvement in the abduction and gruesome murder on June 16.
