6kg gold seized from Kamalapur station
Police arrested three people along with 50 gold bars weighing six kilogrammes from Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital today.
The arrestees were identified as Sujan, 30, Bilu, 32, and Md Selim, 25, sources at Government Railway Police (GRP) said.
Acting on a tip-off, police launched a raid in Turna Nishita Express after it reached Kamalapur station from Chittagong around 9:00am, Imdadul Haque, an assistant sub-inspector of GRP, told The Daily Star.
They arrested Sujan and Bilu after recovering 34 gold bars wighing four kgs from inside their socks, The ASI said.
The market value of the seized gold was estimated around Tk 1.53 crore, the police official said.
Meanwhile, another team of GRP seized 16 gold bars worth around Tk 72 lakh from Selim at the railway station at about 1:00pm, said Abdul Mazid, officer-in-charge of GRP.
