6 more Moghbazar triple murder suspects held
Rapid Action Battalion members detained six people in Dhaka early today for their alleged involvement with the sensational triple murder in Moghbazar of Dhaka on August 28.
Acting on a tip-off, the elite force personnel captured the six persons conducting raids at different places in the capital, Maksudul Alam, assistant director of Rab's Legal and Media Wing told The Daily Star.
During primary interrogation, the detainees confessed to their involvement in the killings, the Rab official said.
A group of upto 21 assailants gunned down three people and injured another at a house in Sonalibagh of Moghbazar on August 28.
The deceased were identified as Ranu Akhter Brishti, 28, Munna, 20, and Billal Hossain, 25. The injured was Hridoy, brother of Ranu.
Eighteen days into the murder, Kailla Babu, the main accused of the triple murder case, was shot dead in a gunfight with detectives in Dhaka.
The case was filed by Ranu’s brother Kala Chan against 15 named persons including Shah Alam alias Kailla Babu and upto six anonymous people.
Police said there had long been an intense rivalry among three alleged local land grabbers and extortionists --Kailla Babu, Kalachand and Rony.
Earlier on August 30, three of the accused were arrested. Two among them -- Faruk Shamim Hossain, 32, and Sohel Khan, 28 – were close associates of Kailla Babu.
Later, the two were placed on five-day remand each where they said to have primarily confessed their involvement with the killing.
