5kg gunpowder seized at Ctg college dorm, 1 held
Police seized huge cache of gunpowder, crude bombs, and sharp weapons during a crackdown in two dormitories of Chittagong College today. One person was held.
The detainee was a staff of Suhrawardy hall, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting Atik Ahmed Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Chawkbazar Police Station.
A team of Kotwali and Chawkbazar Police Stations jointly raided Suhrawardy and Sher-e-Bangla dormitories, largely dominated by Jamaat-e-Islami and its student affiliate Islami Chhatra Shibir and around 1:00pm today.
Police seized five kilogrammes of gunpowder, seven hand-made bombs and bomb making materials from the store room of Suhrawardy hall, the OC said.
Sixteen sharp weapons were found from Sher-e-Bangla hall, he added. The crackdown was underway until last reported at 3:00pm.
The crackdown came after assault on pro-ruling party student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League activists by alleged Shibir supporters this morning, our correspondent reports.
