5 killed in Gazipur road crash

Five people were killed and four injured as a truck rammed a human hauler in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur this morning.

The deceased are Abdul Hakim, 40, Md Jahangir Alam, 35, Md Sobhan, 35, Abdul Khalek, 35, and Khadiza Begum, 20, reports our Gazipur correspondent.

Sub-inspector Alamgir Hossain, in-charge of Chandra police camp, said a truck hit a human hauler, locally known as Leguna, in front of Chandra forest office on Dhaka-Tangail highway around 8:00am.

Two Laguna passengers died on the spot while seven others suffered serious injuries, the OC said.

Three of the injured died on way to the hospital while the rest was referred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital when they were whisked off to Kaliakoir Upazila Health Complex.   

The truck driver went into hiding leaving his vehicle on the road.
