5 Ijtema devotees killed in Dhamrai crash
At least five people including four Ijtema devotees were killed and five others were injured when a bus and a private car made a head-on collision on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Dhamrai, on the outskirts of the capital, today.
The deceased were identified Rahis Uddin, 36, Nasir Uddin, 40, Nazim Uddin, 40, Abdur Rahim, 40, and the private car driver Rezuan Rahman, 30, said Mohammad Rasel Sheikh, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in Savar Circle.
All the deceased were in the private car which was on its way to Tongi from Jessore to attend the inaugural day of Biswa Ijtema, the ASP also said.
“A bus of Shuvojatra Paribahan rammed the private car from opposite direction in Jaipura area around 9:00am,” he added.
Three of them died on the spot while others succumbed to their injuries after they were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
