5 Bangladeshi workers killed in KSA road crash
At least seven people including five Bangladeshi workers were killed and 2 others injured as the vehicle carrying them hit two pedestrians at a street in Mecca city of Saudi Arabia today.
The victims are initially identified as Faridul Alam, 45, Md Alam, 36, Ayub, 30 (driver), Mansur Alam, 30, and Najir Hossain, 35, Md Mokammal Hossain, a consul at Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah told The Daily Star over phone this evening.
The two of the local pedestrians who were hit by the vehicle died on the spot.
The driver of the vehicle lost control over the steering wheel and drove onto the wrong side of the street, Md Mokammal said quoting Saudi officials.
The injured are: Md Islam and Jainal.
All of them hailed from Edigaon unioin under Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Four bodies were kept in Al Shisha Makka and one at Al Noor Hospital, the official said.
“Our first secretary has already gone to the hospitals. Detailed information of the accident will be known after receiving information,” the consul said.
He said the Bangladeshis were killed in the accident when two passenger vehicles hit each other around 9:00am (local time KSA) near Al Hijra Street in Mecca.
The victims were going to join their workplace, he said.
