47 BNP-Jamaat men held in districts
At least 47 ‘activists of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami’ were held through Dhaka, Chittagong and Satkhira districts in the past 24-hours for subversive activities.
In Dhaka, 16 people, 12 BNP and four Jamaat activists, were held from separate places in the capital, Masudur Rahman, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told The Daily Star this morning.
Meanwhile two woman activists of Jamaat were held at Jhaudanga union in Satkhira, around 1:00am today, our Satkhira correspondent reports quoting Golam Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
The detainees have been identified as Sahanara Bari, 48, president, and Sukhtara, 36, an activist of Jhaudanga Jamaat women’s unit, police claim.
Moreover, at least 29 BNP-Jamaat-Shibir men were held from different upazilas of Chittagong for subversive activities carried out during the agitation of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Among the arrestees, 12 were BNP men, four Jamaat and 13 Shibir activists, Naimul Hasan, additional superintendent of police (Special Branch) in Chittagong district told The Daily Star.
In the past three days, over a hundred activists of the BNP and Jamaat were held from Dhaka metropolitan area for troublemaking in view of the continuing agitation of the 20-party combine.
