4 Huji men held with huge explosives
Detectives busted two explosives research laboratories of banned outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (Huji) early today and arrested its four leaders and activists with huge amount of explosives, detonators and bomb-making materials.
Later, a Dhaka court placed them on remand for six days each in two cases filed under Anti-Terrorism Act and Explosives and Substances Act.
They were also shown arrested in two other cases with Uttara Police Station in the capital.
A total of five teams of Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted drives and arrested them from Uttara and Tikatuli in Dhaka and Fatullah in Narayanganj, said Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, at a press briefing at DMP media centre.
While conducting the raids, DB police unearthed the two laboratories used to research explosives in Wari area of Dhaka and Fatullah of Narayanganj, Monirul told the reporters.
Huge explosives materials and detonators were also recovered from the laboratories.
The detainees are: Md Rafique Ahmed alias Sajid, 34, Md Omor alias Faizul alias Robi, 25, Md Nadim Ahmed Alias Sumon, 30, Md Salahuddin Ahmed, 29.
Among the detainees, Rafique is operational leader and Omor is an explosives expert. Nadim and Salahuddin are active members of the banned organisation.
During the primary interrogation, they admitted that they were planning for simultaneous attacks on some dignitaries in Dhaka, Chittagong and Rajshahi this month, Monirul claimed.
They also trying to contact with other “jihadists” to carry out such attacks, Monirul said.
