4 held with 1, 43,000 pieces of yaba pills in Ctg
Rapid Action Battalion detained four people and seizes 1, 43,000 pieces of yaba tablets in separate drives at different parts of Chittagong city since Thursday afternoon to early Friday.
The arrestees are Syed Kashem, 33, Samrat Sardar, 23, Rabiul Patwari, 22 and Ayub. Rab members alleged that the detainees are members of a yaba trading gang.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-7 raided Hill View area of the port city around 4:30pm on Thursday and detained Kashem.
Around 10,000 pieces of yaba tablets were also seized from his possession, Sohel Mahmud assistant director (media) of the Rab team told The Daily Star today.
On information provided by Kashem, the Rab team also launched a raid at his residence in the same area and seized more 1,20,000 pieces of yaba pills, said the Rab official.
Samrat and Rabiul were also detained with 10,000 pieces of the contraband pills by the elite force from Fakirhat area around 1:30am on Friday.
In a separate drive, the Rab team arrested Ayub from Chandgaon area of the city at around 5:30pm on Thursday and recovered 3000 pieces of yaba tablets from his possession, Mahmud he added.
The market value of the seized yaba tablets is estimated to Tk 5.69 crore, he said.
Earlier in Chittagong, members of Bangladesh Navy recovered 2,20,000 pieces of yaba tablets on September 15 and Bangladesh Coast Guard members seized two lakh pieces of Yaba tablets on August 24.
