4.2kg gold seized at Dhaka airport
Customs Intelligence officials detained a man and recovered 36 gold bars weighing 4.2 kilogramme from his possession at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today.
The arrestee was identified as Khurshid Alam, a resident of Sitakunda of Chittagong.
Moinul Khan, director general of the customs intelligence, said Alam came from Dubai by a Fly Dubai flight around 12:20pm.
Following Alam’s suspicious movement, customs intelligence officials challenged him when he was crossing the green channel of the airport with a water pump, Khan said.
Later, the intelligence officials found the gold bars after cutting the motor, he added.
Market value of the gold bars is estimated at Tk 2.2 crore, the official said.
