36 madrasa youths held in Dhaka
Police detained at least 36 youths from a dormitory of a madrasa in Mir Hazaribagh of Dhaka early today ahead of the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s hartal.
They are all students of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa, said Dr Abu Eusuf, vice principal of the educational institution. “Twelve among them are candidates of Dakhil tests, equivalent of Secondary School Certificate (SSC).”
“15 of those detained are Alim examinees,” he added.
Atiqur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station, said some madrasa youths were held in a nearly three-hour drive began around 11:00pm last night.
However, he did not disclose the reason behind their capture.
The SSC and its equivalent examinations of 2015 will begin from February 2 even if the countrywide agitation of the BNP-led 20-party combine continues, education minister said.
Today is a 24-hour hartal in Dhaka and daylong hartal for 11 other districts on top of the blockade programme, which is at its 24th day today.
