30 fortuneseekers arrested in Benapole
Members of Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) arrested 30 people including women and children last night at Benapole port during their illegal attempt to enter Indian territories through Putkhali border point.
Of the arrestees, 16 were men, eight women and six children, reports our Benapole correspondent.
A patrol team of BGB-23 battalion arrested them around 8:30pm yesterday and handed them over to Benapole Port Police.
However, no traffickers could be arrested, said Shafi Uddin, a corporal of the battalion.
“Being impoverished, I was going to search for work in Kolkata, but they [BGB troops] brought us to the police station,” said Nur Jahan Bibi, 30, hailing from Narail.
A case was filed in this connection.
Mosharraf Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Police told the Daily Star that the arrestees would be sent to court today afternoon.
