3 students killed in Rajshahi road crash
Three students were killed and 20 others injured after a college bus collided head on with another vehicle and fell into a ditch in Rajshahi Sadar upazila this afternoon.
The dead were identified primarily as Nasrin Akhtar, Tania and Mahmuda, final year students of Rajshahi Government College, reports our local correspondent quoting Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station.
A speeding passenger bus from Sirajganj collided head on with the college bus near the main gate of Rajshahi Jute Mills around 1:00pm, police and witnesses said.
The bus fell in a roadside ditch. The injured girls died on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, OC Alamgir Hossain said. “The students were returning home.”
Five firefighting units of Rajshahi University Fire Service rescued the injured. The rescue work was still underway when the report was filed around 3:30pm.
A huge number of policemen were deployed to secure the rescue works, sad the police officer.
The college principal Hobibur Rahman rushed to RMCH after hearing the incident.
