3 men held with petrol bombs in Dhaka
Police detained three people in possession of five petrol bombs in Bangshal area of Dhaka in the wee hours today on the 4th day of the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s hartal.
The detainees are Faruk, 30, Mamun, 17, and Kawsar, 17, from Alubazar in Shikkhatoli area, said Kuddus Fakir, officer-in-charge of Bangshal Police station.
Meanwhile, police held at least 12 activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir in 24 hours till this morning from Dhaka for subversive activities amidst the agitation of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
They were all held for involvement or plotting subversive activities in the capital, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said in a message floated to the media today.
In Bhola, police recovered five crude bombs in a raid in Western Para area in Bhola Sadar upazila around 12:30am, said Ramanand Sarkar, assistant superintendent of police (ASP).
However, no one was arrested in this connection, our Bhola correspondent reports quoting the ASP.
No major incident was reported in the country during the hartal till 11:00am, when this report was filed.
The alliance yesterday extended its ongoing hartal till Friday on top of the nonstop nationwide blockade which was sponsored since January 6.
At least 69 people were killed since the BNP-led alliance had announced the blockade on January 5.
