3 killed over land disputes
Three people were killed and ten others injured over land disputes in Netrakona, Sylhet and Kushtia districts yesterday and on Saturday night.
Our Netrakona correspondent reported that two groups of villagers clashed over a disputed land at Borkhapon village under Kalmakanda upazila yesterday noon, leaving a man dead and ten others injured.
The dead was identified as Judge Mia, 42, son of late Engil Kha of the village.
Police and locals said there had been a conflict between Abdur Rashid and Judge Mia over the ownership of a land for the last few months.
As Abdur Rashid and his men went to the land for crop cultivation at around 12:30pm, Judge Mia and his supporters attacked them, resulting in a clash between the two sides.
Judge Mia was hit by sharp weapons and died on the spot. Ten other people, who sustained injuries during the clash, were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital and the upazila heath complex.
A murder case was filed with Kalmakanda Police Station, but none was arrested as of filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday.
In Sylhet, a man was killed in an attack by his rival over a land dispute at Chunarpar village in Balaganj upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Afroz Ali, 40, son of Abdul Majid of the village, reports UNB.
Juber Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station, said there was a conflict between Afroz Ali and Manjurul Islam over the ownership of a piece of land at the village.
Both locked in an altercation over the issue at around 9:00am. At one stage, Manjurul hit Afroz with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.
He died on the way to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Being informed, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy. Manjurul had gone into hiding soon after the incident.
Our Kushtia correspondent adds: An elderly woman was killed allegedly by his brother over land dispute at Mouban Housing Area in the town on Saturday.
The dead was identified as Zohura Khatun, 54, wife of Nazim Uddin. According to police, Nazim went out of house at around 4:30pm.
Police quoting neighbours as saying that Zohura's younger brother Solaiman entered the house aqt around 5:00pm and engaged in an altercation with Zohura over the land.
When returned home at 7:30pm, Nazim found his wife's body lying on the floor with throat slit.
Solaiman had gone into hiding . A case was filed with Kushtia Model police yesterday.
