3 killed in city road crashes
Three people, two of a family and a sub-inspector of police, were killed in road accidents amid a thin flow of traffic in the capital's Paribagh and Kafrul during the Jamaat-enforced countrywide hartal yesterday.
Firoza Begum, 50, and her sister-in-law Chanburu, 35, were killed and three others injured when a bus rammed a three-wheeler near Ruposhi Bangla Hotel.
The speeding bus hit the Mohammadpur-bound three-wheeler around 7:00am, leaving four of a family and the driver of the three-wheeler injured, said Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Firoza and Chanburu were declared dead, said the OC.
The bodies of the females were handed over to their family members without autopsy.
Injured Azizul, 28, nephew of Firoza, and his wife, Ankhi, 20, are undergoing treatment at the hospital. The driver, Shaheen, 35, also received treatments there.
Meanwhile, a pick-up ran over Abu Bakar Siddique, a sub-inspector of the Special Branch of police, and killed him at Kafrul.
The unidentified pick-up hit Siddique's motorcycle from behind and then ran over him around 2:00pm near the Air Force Headquarters. He died on the spot, said Sub-Inspector Rakibul Islam of Kafrul Police Station.
The victim's wife Selina Begum said Siddique was going to his workplace at Gono Bhaban from their residence at Kachukhet after lunch.
Siddique's body was sent to the DMC morgue for autopsy.
