3 'JMB suspects' held in capital
Three alleged members of banned militant group Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were arrested at Sayedabad in the capital last night.
The JMB men were nabbed along with a laptop and some explosive like substances when detectives conducted a raid at Sayedabad, Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of Detective Branch of police, said at press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police media centre.
Arrestees Md Shamim Mahfuz alias Suman, 38, Jahidur Rahman, 33 and Ismail Hossain, 39, hailed from Gaibandha, Pirojpur and Chandpur respectively.
At the briefing, Monirul said Shamim along with his two associates were trying to reorganise militants of the country.
Shamim was trying to communicate with international Islamic militants' group al-Qaeda, Shamim told DB police during primary interrogation, Monirul claimed.
Shamim was involved with Islami Chhatra Shibir, a student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami in his college life. He was a student of Dhaka University, the DB official said.
He also was a member of Jama'atul Muslimeen, another militant group of the country, he added.
DB officials are examining the explosives like substances which they found in a poly bag of the possession of the arrestee.
