3 held with 101 gold bars at Dhaka Airport
Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital seized 101 gold bars weighing about 12.6 kilogramme and arrested three young men in this connection this morning.
The arrested were identified as Sabuj Miah, 35, Joynal, 35, and Roman,22.
Ishrat Jahan Rumi, assistant commissioner (Customs), said the trio, domestic passengers, landed at the airport from a flight (BG052) of Bangladesh Biman Airways from Dubai via Sylhet around 8:49am.
When they were crossing the domestic terminal of the airport, customs officials, on a tip off, challenged them.
Later, the customs officials conducted a search around 9:30am and recovered the gold bars from the belts of two passengers and from inside sandals and shoes kept in the luggage of one.
Later, they arrested the trio and handed over them to Airport Police Station.
The market value of the seized gold was estimated at Tk 6 crore.
A case was filed in this connection.
