3 die in Sunamganj trawler fire

At least three people died and 30 were injured after jumping off a trawler which caught fire in Surma river of Sunamganj this evening.

Police said the incident took place around 8:00pm in Sapura area of Chhatak upazila, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

The fire originating from a stove of at the trawler went out of control, prompting passengers to jump into the river, Md Shahjahan Munshi, officer-in-charge of Chhatak Police Station, told The Daily Star.

One of the deceased was identified as Rokeya Begum, 30, the official added.

The trawler was carrying around 70 passengers.
