3 Bangladeshis killed in Bahrain fire
Three Bangladeshi workers died and two others were injured after a fire broke out in a residential building in the Bahraini capital Manama early Friday.
Two of the deceased were identified as Mosharraf Hossain, son of Nazir Ahmed, and Abu Jalal, First Secretary (Labour) of Bangladesh Embassy in Manama Mohidul Islam told The Daily Star.
Neither the details of the victims nor the identity of the other deceased could be known immediately.
The fire broke out around 3:30am at the two-storey building, which housed around 60 Bangladeshis, in Makharqa area, said a press statement of the embassy to the foreign ministry.
The three are believed to have died of smoke inhalation and there were no signs of burns or any other injury in their bodies. The injured Bangladeshis left hospital after receiving treatment, according to the statement.
Bahrain's interior ministry in a statement blamed "safety negligence" in the building for the fire that gutted the first floor of the building. It also has ordered an investigation into the accident.
Mohidul Islam, however, said the fire might have originated from an electric short circuit.
Ambassador Ali Akbar and other embassy staffs visited the building and the mortuary, where the bodies have been kept, following the incident.
Several incidents of fire took place in Bahrain earlier, killing a number of Bangladeshis.
Thirteen Bangladeshi workers were killed in a fire at a labour accommodation in January last year in one of Bahrain's deadliest fire tragedies.
Another fire at a building in East Riffa killed at least 10 Bangladeshis in May, 2012.
More than 2,00000 Bangladeshis are currently working in the Gulf country, according to Bangladesh Embassy in Bahrain.
