27 shot in Natore village clash
At least 30 people were injured, including 27 with gunshot wounds, in a clash between two rival groups of local villagers this morning in Singra upazila of Natore.
Among the injured, Babu Sardar, Khuku Moni, and Jahanara Begum were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital in critical condition, our Natore correspondent reports quoting police.
Identities of all could not be ascertained immediately.
Locals said of a long rivalry had been going on between supporters of Saiful Islam and Amjad Mollah over establishing supremacy in Berabari area. They are said to be supporters of Awami League.
Followers of Saiful besieged Amjad’s house and began firing gun shots indiscriminately around 8:00am, locals said. 30 were injured among whom 27 with bullet wounds, the correspondent said quoting Salma Khatun, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Singra.
Additional police forces were deployed in the area to avert further tension.
Munshi Sahabuddin, additional superintendent of Natore police, visited the site after the incident, said he heard of the rivalry between the two groups in the village.
Two people were detained.
A gun and a dagger were seized from them.
