Schoolboy murdered over cricket match


A schoolboy was stabbed to death and three others were injured in a dispute over a cricket match at Shewrapara in the city yesterday.

The deceased Ahmed Rubel, 15, was a student of class eight of Mirpur Model High School and resident of West Shewrapara at Mirpur.

Nurul Islam, 18, Alamgir Hossain, 13, Muhammad Parvez, 16, were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.

Police said a group of young men numbering seven to eight swooped on them with sharp weapons at about 12:30pm while they were gossiping in front of a bridge at Oli Miar Tek at Pirerbagh. Rubel succumbed to his injuries at the DMCH.

Police picked up one Hafizur Rhaman and Alauddin Sikdar in this connection.

Locals said yesterday's incident was sequel to a previous dispute over a cricket match at Anandabazar between Shewrapara Cricket Team and Anandabazar Cricket Team.
