Fake monk held at ZIA on way to Italy
Staff Correspondent
A youth, who tried to go abroad in the guise of a Buddhist Bhikkhu for a better fortune, was arrested at Zia International Airport on Tuesday night. Mehadi Hasan used fake name Utpal Bhikkhu in his passport and wore the traditional robe. He also took training for few days to get accustomed with the behaviour of a Bhikkhu (monk). Hailing from Munshiganj, Mehadi mentioned his address in the passport as a man from Rangunia in Chittagong and made some changes in his photograph. He was supposed to leave the country for Italy by an Emirates flight on Tuesday night to fulfil his dream, but the immigration police did not give him clearance suspecting something fishy. During interrogation at the airport, he told the police that he had managed a visa for Italy providing Tk 13 lakh to a manpower agent. Mehadi said he had a plan to stay with the monks in Italy as long as his visa would remain valid and then he would flee away. Police filed a case against him and launched drives to arrest the manpower agents who were sending him abroad.
