Helal bids BFF bye

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) yesterday bade farewell to its general secretary Anwarul Huq Helal whose resignation letter has been accepted by president SA Sultan.

Deputy general secretary Manzoor Hossain Malu will be the acting general secretary according to the statutes.

Helal, who was present in his last meeting, exited in tears with the bouquet he received from his former colleagues after serving as chief executive since 2003.

However, the BFF boss's claim to discuss the issue in yesterday's emergency meeting was not supported by other members.

Sultan told the press after the meeting at the BFF office that like the past, when Kazi Salahuddin and Ashrafuddin Ahmed Chunnu resigned, the issue was discussed at the meeting before accepting Helal's resignation.

Different BFF members, however, informed that the two-minute long meeting was a formal farewell party for Helal.

"The BFF president himself took the decision. He told us that Helal's resignation has been accepted and there was no discussion," told joint-secretary Anwar Hossain Ujjal.

When asked whether Helal was asked to reconsider his decision, Sultan refused to make any comment.
