EU happy with rights situation in Bangladesh

The European Union (EU) yesterday expressed satisfaction at the "clear indications of improvement" in human rights situation in Bangladesh.

The observation came from Ambassador of Netherlands, Kees Beemsterboer, who led a three-member EU delegation of local envoys at a meeting with Foreign Adviser Iftekhar A Chowdhury at the foreign ministry.

"Although some issues remain unsolved, we appreciate the government's efforts to improve the overall situation of the country. There are clear indications that the situation is improving," said the Dutch ambassador.

He also said that they are focusing on the issues cited by the EU Troika that visited Bangladesh in June. But, he did not elaborate his comments on issues concerning human rights in Bangladesh.
