CAAC's sixth anniversary celebration


On it's sixth anniversary, Centre for Asian Art and Culture (CAAC) arranged a weeklong programme. On the fourth day of the programme a musical soiree was held at CAAC auditorium on Science Laboratory Road on August 4. Talented singer-composer Swani Zubayeer along with Arup Rahi and Tapan Kumar Mandal performed at the programme.

The evening started with a Lalon song, Bhaba taranga dekhey, rendered by Arup Rahi. Guitar, harmonium and tabla accompanied the vocalist. The artiste also performed some of his original compositions - Dol dol dol, Uthaney dhaner shathey, Tui ashlina and Shapath jabaner.

Tapan Kumar Mandal also performed some popular Lalon songs - Hingsha aar ninda chharo, Ami jarey bhalobashi, Oki shangsharer shangshari and A mi kangal doyal.

Swani Zubayeer, director of Dhaka Music Conservatory (a wing of CAAC), was the last performer of the evening. The artiste started with a ghazal of Nazrul, Amar nayan-e nayan rakhi. Zubayeer also rendered Hridi padmey charan, a Nazrul sangeet; Barney gandhey chhandey geetitey, a Sachin Dev Burman classic and an Urdu ghazal, Mazaarey qayes paar.

CAAC started its journey on August 1, 2001. The organisation has been working towards cultural decolonisation and collective self-awareness.

"Itihash Karkhana" (a series of workshops on history), "Monobisleshan Karkhana" (workshop on psychoanalysis), Jacques Lacan Bidyalaya, Dhaka Music Conservatory, Philosophy Festival, Ahmed Sofa Pathagar O Mohafezkhana, publications of Rastroshobha Potromala and workshops on studies in imperialism are some of the significant initiatives by CAAC.
