Prescheduled berthing introduced at Ctg port
Staff Correspondent, Ctg
Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) yesterday introduced fixed day window berthing, a prescheduled berthing system of international standard, at the country's premier port. CPA Chairman Commodore Muhammed Farooque inaugurated the new berthing system through allowing formal window berth to a feeder vessel 'The Merkur Bridge of PIL' at Jetty No 2 of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT). Representatives from Bangladesh Shipping Agents' Association (BSAA) and other port users were present during the inauguration ceremony organized jointly by CPA and BSAA inside the NCT. CPA Member Captain Yahya Syed chaired the ceremony. CPA Chairman said the pre-scheduled system would help exporters and importers pre-plan their shipments as well as save both time and money. CPA sought cooperation from everyone in making the new system a success and turning the port into a model container port. BSAA President Dr Parvez Sajjad Akhter thanked the CPA for introducing the Window Berthing system on behalf of the port users and assured of all out cooperation. In the recent past, some five to six berths were lying vacant every day, thanks to the remarkable success in bringing down the turn around time, which prompted the CPA to introduce the new system, sources at the port said.
