Inter-ministerial meeting on WC held

A routine inter-ministerial meeting on preparation for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 was held yesterday with Youth and Sports Adviser Tapan Chowdhury in the chair.BCB ad-hoc committee members Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby and Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu attended the meeting along with chief executive officer Mahmudur Rahman. High officials of Home, Information, Commerce, Foreign Affairs, LGRD, Civil Aviation and Tourism, Finance, Health and Family Welfare and Telecommunications ministries were also present. Bangladesh is one of co-hosts of the biggest cricket event and it will host the opening ceremony besides six matches and a few practice games during the carnival. A lot of issues came to discussion including preparing the stadiums in line with the demands of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, the new home of Bangladesh cricket, has been proposed as the match and inaugural function venue, while Bangabandhu National Stadium and Fatullah Cricket Stadium or any other stadium located in the city, have been proposed as alternative and practice-match venues. A permanent operational office would have to be set up minimum three years ahead of the kick-off, which will be played across the subcontinent in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. A full-fledged ICC office will be set up three weeks before the curtain is raised on the World Cup.
