One killed as BDR, BSF exchange fire

A Bangladeshi youth was killed as BDR and BSF exchanged fire on Hatkhola border under Panchbibi upazila of the district early yesterday.

BDR sources said the Indian border guards of Sidai camp fired three rounds of bullet towards Hatkhola border outpost without any provocation at about 3.02am, prompting BDR personnel to retaliate by firing eight bullets.

After exchange of fire, BDR men found a body floating in a ditch near the border in the morning. The victim was identified as Mansur Ali, 18, son of Abdul Baten of village Uchna under the upazila.

Immediately after the incident, Bangladesh paramilitary troops have been put on high alert on the border. BSF also deployed more troops.

A company commander level flag meeting was held on the border in the morning where BDR strongly protested the killing of the Bangladeshi in BSF firing.

BDR also blamed the BSF for violating the decisions of Saturday's battalion commander level flag meeting held on Koya border under Panchbibi upazila. In the meeting, the BDR and BSF agreed to maintain peace at the frontier.
