Charges framed against Naser in extortion case

Charges have been framed against former BNP lawmaker Naser Rahman and five others in a Tk 2-crore extortion case. Additional District and Sessions Judge (No.3) Binoy Kumer indicted the six on the extortion charges. The other accused are Moulvibazar Municipal Chairman Faizul Karim Moyun, Moulvibazar BNP Joint Secretary Wali Siddique, former R&H executive engineer of Moulvibazar Abdul Khaleque, superintending engineer Monwar Sadik and executive engineer of Sylhet Shariful Islam. Another accused, Sylhet City BNP President Ariful Haque Chowdhury, was not indicted on the extortion charge, as there is a stay order of the High Court. After framing the charges, Monwar Sadique surrendered before the court. He was sent to jail. On 17 February this year, contractor Nuruzzaman of Mirabazar in the district, filed the extortion case against seven people, including Naser Rahman, son of former finance minister M Saifur Rahman.
