Bright example

Your Kushtia correspondent's e positive report on the matter(25July) reflects upon the noble and constructive action on the part of the OC of Mirpur police station in Kushtia. The officer concerned deserves public thanks, and more importantly; appreciation from his superiors and the department, the sooner the better. He has shown rare initiative in eradicating a heinous crime that ruins our youth; potentially creating more drug related criminals in the society.

We hope and wish that police officials follow such noble examples. This can whitewash the negative image of the police in the community that by and large prevails today.

Now the people in Kushtia, the NGOs and other social-welfare minded organisations should take steps to ensure that these reformed criminals are gainfully employed and earn an honest livelihood. That will be a small price to pay for this salutary effort and an example to all of us. Once again, congratulations to this noble police officer, may be the CTG should recognise and reward him for his unique endeavour.
