AL protest in US today

Expatriate Bangladeshis will stage a demonstration in front of the United Nations headquarters in New York and submit a memorandum to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon today urging him to put pressure on the caretaker government to release Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.

Similar demonstrations, organised by the US chapter of Awami League, will also be held in front of the UN headquarters and the US State Department on August 10, says the America News Agency.

The AL will also stage demonstrations demanding Hasina's release on August 15, the 32nd death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina Mukti Parishad yesterday staged a demonstration in Montreal, Canada demanding her immediate release.

Presided over by Joydatta Barua, the rally was addressed by Dipak Dhor Apu, Gazi Qamrul Hasan Kamal, Zamsedul Alam Chowdhury Badal, Belayet Hossain and Paritash Barua, according to a report of New York-based news agency News World.
