Ajit Roy and Shaheen Samad honoured

Kotha Lalitakala Academy (KLA), a cultural organisation, honoured seasoned artistes Ajit Roy and Shaheen Samad, on the occasion of its 14th anniversary. The programme was held on July 28 at the Shishu Academy Auditorium.Jaglul Ahmed Chowdhury, chief editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), was the chief guest. The event opened with a group rendition of the song, Himalay thekey Shundorbon, by students of KLA. It was followed by a group dance. The chief guest then handed awards to Shaheen Samad and Ajit Roy. In his speech Jaglul Ahmed Chowdhury said, “A true artiste never ages as long as his/her works live on through admirers.” He hoped that both Samad and Roy would continue their contribution to the cultural arena of Bangladesh. A short prize giving ceremony followed. Prizes were given to students of KLA, excelling in music, dance and drawing, for the year 2006. A cultural programme was held, beginning with a group dance performance. The event featured solo and group renditions of songs and group dances by students of KLA. The programme wrapped up with a rendition of the popular folk song Nao chhariya de.
