Diarrhoea in Jhenidah kills 2, attacks 500
Scarcity of pure drinking water blamed

Diarrhoea took lives of two children and attacked 500 others in Jhenidah town in last three days.The dead are Abdur Rahim, 2, son of Sonamia of Bepari Para and Milon, 12, son of Sadia Ali of Bepari Para in the town. About 150 diarrhoea patients have been admitted to Jhenidah Sadar hospital during the period. Three of them are in critical condition, doctors said. Afzal Hossain, a patient said the disease is spreading fast for scarcity of pure drinking water due to rain and flood. Jhenidah Civil surgeon (CS) Dr Shamsul Haq said about 100 patients are now undergoing treatment at Jhenidah Sadar Hospital. The doctors have already treated about 500 patients at the open clinic at Bepari Para, he said. Besides, three medical teams are working round the clock in the affected areas, he informed. The CS said the disease broke out as residents drank water polluted by water logging in the town. Meanwhile, the Pouasabha authorities have launched an awareness campaign in the town.
