'Cases filed to tarnish image of Tasmima’

Aegis Textile Mills Ltd. in a statement yesterday said two cases have been filed against its Managing Director Tasmima Hossain, former lawmaker and wife of Jatiya Party Chairman Anwar Hossain Monju, recently only to tarnish her social and political reputation and to cause financial loss in her business.

Firoz Iqbal, executive engineer of the Roads and Highways (R&H) in Manikganj, filed the cases with Ashulia Police Station on June 21 and with Joydevpur Police Station on July 22 accusing her of grabbing a land of R&H at Chhoto Govindapur in Gazipur in 1988 and constructing a road to the mill, a gate and a security shed there.

But MA Jamil Hossain, administrative official of the Aegis Textile Mills, in the statement claimed that the mill was not even set up in 1988. The mill purchased its land in 1990 and went into production in 1991, he said, adding that there has been no iron gate, road or shed on the land of R&H.

He said only a gas pipeline has been installed from the main road to the mill with the permission from R&H authorities and the pipeline was covered with earth. As a result, the land now looks like an embankment.
