Gen Jamali new BCB president

Putting aside all the guessing, a 12-member ad-hoc committee was announced yesterday to run the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) with Bangladesh Army's Chief of General Staff Maj Gen Sina Ibn Jamali named as president of the country's most affluent sports body. The inclusion of the new BCB chief Jamali was expected but most of the other names are different from the recent media speculations. The National Sports Council (NSC), the apex body of the country's sports, issued the official circular to kill all rumours about the formation of the new committee after the en masse resignation of Mahbubul Anam-led executive committee last Tuesday. Maj Gen Jamali replaced Agriculture Secretary M Abdul Aziz, who tendered his resignation from the hot seat on Wednesday. NSC formed the ad-hoc committee under powers conferred in clause 20 A (b) of the amended National Sports Council Act of 1974 cancelling the BCB executive committee following voluntary resignation of the elected board. The media had leaked a 'draft committee' two days back, which raised questions about some of the 'would-be' members, however those members' names are missing on this ad-hoc committee. The most important thing is the committee comprises 12 members instead of the speculated 16. Only one member of the previous executive committee, Mirza Salman Ispahani who was also the vice-chairman of marketing and commercial committee, has been named in the new ad-hoc committee. It also includes Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Syed Fahim Munaim, former BCB director Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby, Shafiqur Rahman Munna, former national skipper Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, former national cricketer Ishtiaque Ahmed, former manager of national cricket team Lt Col (retd) M Abdul Latif Khan, former MCCI president M Abdul Momen and Dhaka Club president M Selim Bhuiyan, businessman Firoz Ahmed and former woman cricketer Monwara Anis Khan. The new committee will take over immediately and take necessary steps to form a full-fledged executive committee.
