One strangled in Tangail

A gang of robbers strangled one person at Ghatail upazila in the district in the early hours of yesterday.

The victim was identified as Acchab Ali, 35, of Paharia village in the district.

Police and sources said a gang of armed robbers numbering about 8 to 10 broke into the residence of Hormuz Ali, father-in-law of Acchab Ali, at the same village at around 4:00am.

As Acchab Ali tried to resist the robbers, they strangled him.

Following his strangulation, the robbers tied other inmates of the house and looted Tk 16000 in cash, five tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables worth about Tk 1 lakh.

Being informed, Ghatail police recovered the body and sent it to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

However, police suspect the killing was pre-planned since the robbers spared a number of other valuables which they could have made away with.
