CA’s support for poor heart patients

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed yesterday directed the authorities concerned to quickly implant a mitral valve and supply an oxygenator from the CA's quota to a poor woman heart patient for free.

The CA came forward with this humanitarian gesture as a report published in a national daily drew his attention that a young woman, Bristy Akhter, of Kaliganj village in Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka is in urgent need of transplant of artificial valve into her heart.

He asked the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Hospital, Health Ministry and others concerned to take step for "immediate treatment".

Earlier, Fakhruddin allocated 44 Aortic and Mitral Valves, 35 Oxygenetors and 35 pacemakers from his charity quota for the assistance of poor and genuine heart patients.

The allocation has been given in favour of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Hospital after evaluating the list of the patients, their socio-economic condition and necessity of the surgical operation as per proposal by the hospital authority, said an official of the Chief Adviser's Office

"It is expected that following the noble initiative of the Chief Adviser, 35 real poor cardiac patients would get the facility of expensive valve replacement and oxygnenator in their hearts for free," said the official.

Besides, 35 more poor heart patients would get the opportunity of pacemaker transplant free of cost.
