College standards

Each year, when A- level students join the race with their HSC counterparts to get into the prestigious universities, they receive a huge shock. They discover that the pattern and contents of HSC syllabuses are so radically different from Edexcel's that within a few weeks they need to master a precision that their competitors learnt over the years. As a result, they are lured by coaching centres offering special batches with "100% guarantee of admission" at a king's ransom. Otherwise, they get motivated to pursue enrolment in foreign universities that accept A-levels. Even worse, they are vulnerable to the degree selling culture that has spawned in Bangladesh due to some ill- intentioned private universities and unauthorised branches of foreign universities.

Why is this glaring bane on our academic lives allowed to foster? The government must set equal standards for all mediums to assuage the concerns of higher education seekers.
