Pirates loot trawler, abduct 4 fishermen

Pirates attacked two fishing trawlers, looted hilsa and kidnapped four fishermen from Kotkar Kader canal near the Sundarbans yesterday morning.Witnesses said a gang of armed pirates swooped on the trawlers and looted hilsa worth over Tk 3 lakh. The gang also beat up five fishermen as they tried to resist them. The abducted fishermen are Siddique Sheikh, Kader Sheikh, Amir Hossain and Helal of Swarankhola upazila. The gang demanded a ransom of Tk 3 lakh for release of the fishermen. Earlier on July 8, 11 and 12, pirates looted fishing nets and fish worth over Tk 50 lakh from 28 trawlers and kidnapped over 100 fishermen for ransom.
