Pay attention to neglected south-western region
Adviser tells LGED officials


Adviser for LGRD and Cooperatives Mohammad Anwarul Iqbal yesterday asked the officials of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) to pay special attention to the neglected south-western region of the country while taking new development projects.

He made the call while presiding over a reviewing meeting on progress of implementation of projects in the fiscal 2006-07 in the conference room of the LGRD Ministry, an official handout said.

Secretary of Local Government Division Safar Raj Hossain and Chief Engineer of LGED Mohammad Shaheedul Hassan also spoke on the occasion.

The adviser said the development projects should be accomplished within the stipulated time with honesty, dedication and sincerity to minimise the sufferings and ensure welfare of the people.

"Any irregularity and negligence will not be tolerated in this regard," he told the meeting.

The meeting was informed that the LGED is now implementing 57 projects at a cost of Tk 3,425 crore and the progress of implementation in the last fiscal was 92 percent.

Besides, a total of Tk 935 crore was allocated under the six heads of the local government division in the revised annual development programme of the last fiscal. Tk 889 crore was spent up to June 2007 which is 95.08 percent of the total allocation.
