BJMC retain h'ball crown

BJMC eves defended the national title when they defeated Bangladesh Ansar and VDP 14-11 in an exciting final of the BASIC Bank 18th National Women's Handball Championship at the Dhaka handball court yesterday.It was BJMC's fourth consecutive crown and overall fifth, which frustrated Ansars as they had to remain satisfied with the runners-up trophy for the fourth time in succession. Sadia Khatun with five goals and Dalia Akhter (3) led the charge for BJMC, who led 10-7 at the break. For 12-time winners Ansars, Hashilata netted three goals. Akherunnessa of third-placed Dhaka was adjudged player of the meet. AH Iqbal, managing director of sponsors BASIC Bank, distributed prizes after the final as chief guest.
