Ribery eyeing Schweinsteiger partnership

Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery said on Tuesday he is looking forward to taking on Bundesliga champions VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday and forging a midfield partnership with Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Ribery, 24, scored twice and was a constant thorn in Werder Bremen's side during Bayern's 4-1 League Cup win in Dusseldorf last Saturday and now the Frenchman is looking forward to taking on Stuttgart in Wednesday's semifinal.

Having joined Bayern from Marseille for a reported 26 million euros this summer, Ribery is relishing playing alongside Schweinsteiger and creating a world-class midfield partnership with the 22-year-old German international.

"We're both young players with a feel for the ball, and we actively go looking for possession," said the Frenchman. "We don't waste time thinking about it, we just try and play instinctive football and enjoy ourselves."

The signs of a promising partnership were there against Bremen, but Ribery says he is still finding his way in the team.

"I have to get to know my teammates better, and they have to learn about me. We need to develop an instinctive understanding." Ribery is also looking forward to getting a close look at Stuttgart, who were the surprise winners of last year's Bundesliga.

"We want to reach the final and I'm curious to see how Stuttgart play," he said.

"They won the title, and they'll be there or thereabouts next season. It'll be a good test of where we stand."

Such has been his impact that Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld says Ribery's presence in Bayern is a "stroke of luck" for the club and he is convinced the French international will be a "major attraction for the Bundesliga."

Meanwhile, Ribery, a devout Muslim, says his family are settling well into Munich and his wife Wahiba is three months pregnant with the couple's second child.
