Why keeping children in jail not illegal
HC asks govt to explain

The High Court issued a rule nisi upon the authorities concerned to show cause why imprisonment of children in jails should not be declared illegal.The authorities were also asked to send the children to juvenile correctional centres. A High Court bench of Justices Syed Mahmud Hossain and Farid Ahmed passed the order upon hearing of a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust and Ain O Shalish Kendra. The law firms filed the writ petition following newspaper reports, which said children were imprisoned in jails instead of correctional centres. On behalf of the petitioners, lawyer Nizamul Haque Nasim conducted the case while lawyers Amatul Karim and Abanti Nurul assisted him.
