Khulna power plant shut since Saturday

The 110-megawatt power plant of Khulna Power Station (KPS) has been shut down since 7:30pm of Saturday due to major technical faults.

It will not go into operation without undergoing major overhauling, said a KPS engineer who could not specify the time needed for its repair.

The 60-megawatt power plant of KPS has been out of order since July 5 of last year.

According to a source of West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDC), only 200 megawatt power was supplied on Saturday night against the total need of 600 megawatt of electricity in 21 districts of Khulna and Barisal divisions including greater Faridpur.

Two barge-mounted power plants of KPS also went out of order at 6:50pm on Saturday.

They could not be put into operation as of filing this report last evening.
