Graft charges pressed against 3 BNP leaders
Charge framing against Babar Wednesday


The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday pressed charges against detained former deputy minister for land Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, ex-BNP lawmaker Salahuddin Ahmed and former political secretary to former prime minister Khaleda Zia, Harris Chowdhury, in graft cases.

A Dhaka court fixed Wednesday for order on charge framing against Babar in connection with a case filed for possessing illegal firearms and ammunition at his residence.

Another court fixed July 30 for order on charge farming against Aman and three others in a criminal case filed under the Public Safety Act.

Gulshan police yesterday pressed charges against Beximco Group Vice-Chairman Salman F Rahman in a money laundering case.

DULU CASE
ACC Assistant Director Nurjahan Ahmed yesterday submitted the charge sheet against Dulu and his wife Sabina Yasmin to the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM), showing 65 people as prosecution witnesses.

Earlier, Dulu's wife Sabina was granted ad-interim bail from the High Court (HC) till submission of the police report.

The case was filed against them with Adabar Police Station on April 19 for concealing Tk 3, 06,55,246 in their wealth statements.

HARRIS CASE
ACC Assistant Director Monayem Hossain, also the investigation officer (IO), submitted the charge sheet to the same court against Harris and one of his accomplices, Amin Badal, showing 18 people as prosecution witnesses.

The IO prayed for issuance of arrest warrant against Harris and ordered to attach his all properties, as he has been absconding since the incident was taken place. Badal was earlier arrested and is now in custody.

The case was filed on March 25, as Harris by abusing power took a private car of National Tea Company and handed it over to Badal for use.

SALAHUDDIN CASE
ACC Assistant Director Mahfuza Khatun submitted the charge sheet against Salahuddin, his wife Shamsunnahar Ahmed and three sons-- Imran Ahmed, Tanvir Ahmed and Shahriar Ahmed.

Of them, Imran was earlier granted ad-interim bail from the HC while his mother and two brothers were shown fugitives. The IO prayed for issuance of arrest warrants against them and ordered to attach their properties.

The case was filed on April 11, as they concealed Tk 6,45,28,342 in their wealth statements.

BABAR CASE
Judge Sayed Jahed Mansur of the Special Tribunal-9, Dhaka fixed Wednesday for order on charge framing against Babar.

Babar was produced before the court on an ambulance. Earlier, he was not brought to the court for four consecutive times due to his illness.

The order came following the hearing on charge framing from the prosecution and the defence.

The army-led joint forces recovered four firearms-- a shotgun, a rifle, a pistol, and a Brazilian revolver-- two magazines and 297 bullets during a raid in Babar's Gulshan residence on May 28.

AMAN CASE
Judge Khondaker Kamaluzzaman of Public Safety Court, Dhaka fixed July 30 for order on charge farming against Aman and three others.

The three others are BNP lawmakers Nazim Uddin Alam, Alamgir Hossain and Joynal Abedin Faruque. Of them, Aman and Faruque were produced before the court, while two others are absconding.

According to the prosecution, Aman and others exploded bombs in front of Anjuman Mufidul Islam office in the capital to create panic during hartal on April 9, 2001.

SALMAN CASE
Sub-Inspector (SI) Aminur Rashid of Gulshan police yesterday submitted the charge sheet of a money laundering case against Salman to the same court, showing 45 people as prosecution witnesses.

The case was filed against Salman on February 16 for possessing huge foreign currencies at his residence.

MOUDUD CASE
Judge AKM Enamul Haq of the Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court adjourned the hearing of a case against Moudud until Thursday following a time petition by the defence lawyers.

During yesterday's petition, Moudud's lawyers mentioned that the HC had earlier stayed the proceedings of the case following a petition seeking quashment of the case. But they did not get of the stay order.

FALU'S WIFE CASE
Judge Mohammad Azizul Haq of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, Dhaka transferred the tax evasion case against Mahbuba Sultana, wife of detained former BNP lawmaker Mosaddak Ali Falu, to a special court.

The same court had earlier issued arrest warrant and ordered to attach of her properties after the National Board of Revenue filed the case against her.

Following the order, police raided her house but failed to arrest.

The same court yesterday directed the authorities concerned to publish an advertisement in two national Bangla dailies asking Farzana Khan, daughter-in-law of former minister Shahjahan Siraj, to surrender before the court within three days in connection with a tax evasion case.
