Kamalganj upazila AL general secretary Prof Rafiqur Rahman, also a former upazila chairman, and another person named Abdul Mannan were arrested in connection with an extortion case filed with Kamalganj Police station on Friday.

Zahur Miah of Sripur village under Kamalganj upazila filed the case, police said.

The plaintiff alleged the two promised him get lease of 'Champaroy Bamboo Mohal' in the upazila on July 14. For the purpose, they demanded Tk 20,000 from him.

The plaintiff claimed to have given them Tk 10,000 on July 16. Still then, Rafique allegedly created pressure on him to pay the rest amount. In such a situation, he filed the case, the plaintiff said.
