Build society free from discrimination
Say women rights activists

Women rights activists yesterday called for building a society free from discrimination through changing attitude towards women in their workplaces.

They also called on the government to give recognition to the contribution of women to socio-economic development of the country.

The call came at a view exchange meeting with women professionals organised by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad at the Cirdap auditorium in the city, with its Vice-President Nargis Zafar in the chair.

Parishad General Secretary Ayesha Khanam said women are still facing various forms of discrimination and violence in their workplaces.

She also underscored the need to ensure economic empowerment of women alongside their political empowerment.

Rakhi Das Purokayastha said women constitute half the population and they have significant contribution to socio-economic development but did not get any recognition for their role.
