Eight killed in road accidents


At least eight people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Bogra, Comilla and Mymensingh yesterday.

Our staff correspondent from Bogra reports: Five people were killed and two others injured seriously in a road accident on Bogra-Rangpur Highway at Baghopara in Bogra on Wednesday night.

The accident occurred at 2:00am when a Dhaka-bound night coach from Lalmonirhat hit a Mohasthan-bound tempo from Bogra, leaving five people, including tempo driver, dead on the spot, police said.

The dead were identified as tempo driver Bakul, 32, of Uttarpara village, wholesaler Makbul Hossain Khottu, 65, of Mohishbathan village and Abdul Hannan, 28, Julhak, 29, and Solaiman, 35, of Chingashpur village.

The injured were rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College.

Vehicular movement was disrupted on Bogra-Rangpur Highway for half an hour following the accident.

A correspondent from Comilla adds: At least two people were killed and three others injured in a road accident at Donaitory area on dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sadar Dakshin upazila yesterday.

The dead were indentified as Minto Hossain,32, son of Ershad Mia, of Toragor village in Hajiganj upazila and Ahsan Habib,40, son of Sirajuddin, of Asrafpur village in Kachua upazila in Chandpur.

Police said the accident occurred at about 1:00pm when a Chittagong-bound private car collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound bus, leaving two people dead on the spot and three others injured.

The injured were sent to Comilla Sadar Hospital.

BSS from Mymensingh says: A middle aged man was crushed under the wheels of a running timber-laden truck at Chalk Rampur on Balepara-Trishal road here yesterday.

The victim was identified as Abdur Rauf, 40, of village Bager Bazar in Gouripur upazila of the district.

Police and locals said Abdur Rouf died on the spot as the truck ran over him.

A case was filed with Trishal thana in this connection.
